Story board

This is an example of how to make toast interactive webpage made especially for Johnny. This page was made to be minimal and clear for him to read and follow, and i've added bright colours so that his grand children can join in. The numbers down the bottom show how many steps there are and they will enlarge when his arrow hovers over them so that he can chose to go step by step or skip steps.

I've skipped to the 8th page to see how clear and easy it is to follow the steps. The image provided of the toaster is to support the instructions provided, whilst Mr toast is there to help you along the way if you need help, just by clicking on him he will allow you to use his arrows to fast forward or give you tips.

Johnny Smith:
John is a 75 year old retired carpenter who still enjoys hikes in national parks and riding his Harley- Davidson. He looks forward to the local club raffle and a catch with the boys on a Thursday evening. He also enjoys playing bingo, listening to local radio and watching old western movies with his wife Jill. As he gets older and has to visit the hospital more often, he prefers quick and efficient heath care with simple, bold instructions and hospital signs. He aims to enjoy the rest of his life traveling a little and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

Information/Instructional design

Instructional design
Is a means of creating a way to teach people through the use of creating tools and content to help a person learn effectively through the instructions created. These instructional design can be made up of flow charts, images; showing step by step movements, and can be written in basic instructions so it can be followed easily through the simplicity.

Instructional design these days with rapid technology advances have come a long way from just the average flow chart in books but have moved on to make full use of technology to its advantage such as educational animation, it captures peoples attention and it also makes it easier to follow with the moving graphics to show clear and precise information. Also the people are engaged because of the design.

Information Design
This sort of design is where data is organized, written and presented so that everyone can understand it. Such as road signs, graphs and etc.
The weather panel that you see on the right is one of these types of information design, it is made clear and simple to communicate a large amount of information in a short second, such as a glance. From this you can tell exactly what the weather will be like, cloudy, rainy, sunny etc, and even the temperature and on which day.

Interactive design

Interactive design is basically defining the actions of products and systems that a person or user can have interactions with or Interaction design can be defined as the interaction of an object or system in response to its users.

Web design examples:

This Design web page is full of amazing illustrations and designs. The web page starts of with a rat talking then you click on the lid then you enter into a world of design by c.reel. In the website the images just roll on by at a nice pace then you can go back and scroll your self if you like. Its a great webpage with a lot of interactive design so check it out.

Other types of interactive design can also be used to sell products to us not just to entertain and website such as valley girl, sports girl and other retail website uses this type of media to allow customers to shop online. (the link is provided on your right)

web 2.0

Web 2.0 summarize the idea of the creation of "interconnectivity" and "interactivity" of web-delivered content. Below is what Tim O'Rielly has summed it up as;

"Web 2.0 is the business revolation in the computer industry caused by the move to the internet as a platform, and as attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform".

The comparing below of what Web 2.0 really means by O'Rielly tries to explain the differences as there has been some disagreement on this topic of what it really is but isn't clear enough unless you read the article that have have posted on the link button under Web 2.o article.

Web 1.0   Web 2.0

DoubleClick -- > Google AdScene

Ofto -- > Flickr

Akamai   --> BitTorrent

Mp3.com -- > Napster

Britannica Online --> Wikipedia

Personal websites --> blogging

Evite --> upcoming.org and EVDB

Domain name speculation --> searching engine optimization

Page views --> cost per click

Screen scraping -- > web service

Publishing --> participation

Content management systems -- > wikis

Directories (taxonomy) --> tagging (“folksonomy”)

Stickiness --> syndication

Just to further explain an example of the 1.0 web and 2.o web really are here are the definitions of them;

1. Google: (Web 2.0)
This basically is a search engine, where you type in key words for information and it will list all the results but the most relevant topics to your key words will be on the first page and so on.

2. Double click: (Web1.0)
An advertising website. "DoubleClick was first in the online media business -- that is, representing websites to sell advertising space to marketers".(IAN)
